I love ministry. I love learning about other ministries and how the Lord uses them for His glory. I have the privilege of knowing a few military chaplains. It has been encouraging to see the way the Lord uses these men for His name. I pray this interview exposes some of their work and encourages you to pray for them. The following interview is with Air Force Major Joshua Stoley. I am extremely thankful for Major Stoley, especially his love for our Lord and His bride, the church. Please join me in learning about and praying for him and others who serve in this role.… Continue reading

Reprise: So You Think You Are a Red Letter Christian?
“Red Letter” Christianity is kind of a hot topic these days. If you spend much time in the Christian blogosphere (which presumably you do if you are reading this) you are sure to encounter writers, thinkers, the occasional pastor and especially commenters, who proudly proclaim themselves to be “Red Letter” Christians. Whether it is referring to those involved in the formal organization headed by Tony Campolo (I know he would likely object to the description a formal organization and him as the head but that’s what it is and that is what he is) or just to individuals who self identify that way the basic idea is that they follow Jesus’ teachings, the things in red typeface in red letter editions of the bible, as a kind of canon within the Canon.… Continue reading
What We Ought To Be Thankful For (reprise)
Today (or yesterday if you are reading this on Friday) is the holiday we call Thanksgiving. Families all over this country will gather around a large feast that typically includes turkey, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, stuffing, sweet potato casserole with little marshmallows on top, and some pumpkin/pecan pie for dessert. You may have some other family tradition foods that you expect to be on the table, such as “green goop” was a family must at my family Thanksgiving meal (though everyone in my family thought it was gross except for my dad).
Many things happen on Thanksgiving that seem to be “traditions,” such as the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City, a Detroit Lions and Dallas Cowboys game, the end of the college football season, a “Turkey Football” game in folk’s backyards, preparation for “Black Friday,” Turkey Night Grand Prix for NASCAR racing, various marathons where people dress up as turkey’s and run a 5K or 10K, etc.,… Continue reading
Getting Better at Giving Thanks – A Sermon on Psalm 100
Happy Thanksgiving, faithful PS23 reader! In my post today, I simply want to point you to a sermon that I preached last Sunday entitled “Getting Better at Giving Thanks,” based on Psalm 100, the psalm that God himself calls “A Psalm for Giving Thanks.” I pray that it might be a blessing to you this Thanksgiving week.

Loving The Unlovable: A Theology
Over the past few years I have been honored to participate in the GAMA conference hosted by Hope Bible Church in Columbia, Maryland. And it is by far my favorite conference, sure Shepherd’s conference is great, and I have been blessed every time I have been to Together for the Gospel, But for my money GAMA is my favorite, and the reason is that there is no one famous. And that is a great encouragement, because the great teaching and preaching is coming from men who pastor small churches in our part of the world; God is at work building and equipping His church, even when you don’t hear about it.… Continue reading
