“Your thoughts of God are too human.” These are the condemning words Martin Luther wrote to the heretic Erasmus, but I wonder how much we might be guilty of the same thing. Every time we distrust in the sovereign plan of God, we diminish God to a lesser being who isn’t in control over every aspect of creation. What’s more is that any god less than the God described in Scripture is an idol, crafted by our own imaginations or perception. On the flip side, for our thoughts of God to be biblical, we would have to affirm that He is in perfect, sovereign control over every possible element and detail of His creation.… Continue reading
“Be anxious for some things.” Oops! Did I misquote that verse? A lot of people struggle greatly with the reality of that statement. It’s a rather stark command considering our culture and the “Christian” psychology’s influence on biblical counseling. Yes. I am drawing a hard distinction between the two, which will probably end up being another blog post given the natural interest in the subject and considering Rick Warren’s recent proclamation that he’d be working with the Roman Catholic Church to address the widespread problem of “mental illnesses.” That is something I want to address thoroughly, at a near future date.… Continue reading
Political instability, debt ceiling increases, mortgage payments, limping economy, higher taxes, higher cost of living, Obamacare, lay-offs, violence, terror threats, wars, severe weather, food shortages, scams, identity theft, uncertain futures, even worse – uncertain futures for children or grandchildren.
