Well, it’s over. Donald Trump has all but wrapped up the Republican presidential nomination, and the “conservative Christian” candidates are gone. But at least we can trust that God is sovereign!
… that is, unless someone starts a third party run. Or a pro-life Libertarian gets nominated… Or next election when someone better might have a chance to get elected, or some other circumstance might change…
…but if not, maybe God can become sovereign again!
It’s easy for us to tell ourselves that “God is sovereign” when we run out of other options. But the way we think, talk, and act when things don’t look so gloomy says something about how much we really believe in his sovereign goodness at all times – including when we’re most prone to say it.… Continue reading

As you enter your final year in office, I’d like to thank you for your service and work. I do not pretend to know the stress, difficulties, and pressures associated with your position, but I imagine they are more difficult than most of us realize. Thank you for enduring eight years of criticism from both those who agree and disagree with you. A lot of media attention directed toward the Middle East. Stories and coverage of ISIS, Syria, Israel, Iran, and Iraq fill the headlines and social media. Every presidential candidate has a view and advocates his or her distinct policies for the region. Everyone has an opinion. Every opposing view is stupid. This is the only consensus in the discussion. Yet among the discussion has grown a troublesome rhetoric from Christians, “We need to nuke ISIS.” “We need to nuke Iran.” “Israel should nuke ’em all.” Let me be clear. God is not on board.
